Announcement of the Kazan Prize named after E. Zavoisky Winners

30.09.2022

Dr. Almaz Sayfutdinov, Associate Professor of General Physics Department became the winner in the “Applied Research” category

“Kinetics of fast-moving electrons in a negative glow plasma of a glow discharge and its gas analytical applications” was recognized as the best scientific work in the category. It covers the experimental and theoretical research of plasma parameters of negative glow in a short glow discharge and the possibilities of its use as a working medium in modern gas analyzers.

More than that, Dr. Almaz Sayfutdinov was able to develop a hybrid model of a glow discharge, which describes the electronic component of the plasma by physical kinetics, and the heavy component of the plasma by hydrodynamic description. This approach allowed obtaining an overview of the distribution of plasma parameters in the negative glow. In addition, the dependence of the distribution function and phase flow on energy showed the formation of narrow peaks from fast-moving electrons produced due to Penning ionization reactions of methane impurities and its derivatives and metastable helium atoms.

As usual, the results of the competition were announced on September 28, the birthday of Evgeny Zavoisky, an outstanding scientist of Kazan University, who discovered the phenomenon of electron paramagnetic resonance in 1944 at Kazan University.
